NFL Rumors: Josh Jacobs, Raiders Reach Impasse on New Contract Negotiations

NFL Rumors: Josh Jacobs and the Las Vegas Raiders appear unlikely to strike a long-term agreement given that the franchise tag deadline for players to agree to a long-term deal is just one day away.

Saquon Barkley, Tony Pollard, and Jacobs were three running backs that were franchise tagged this offseason. Although each running back will receive a guaranteed $10.1 million this season, all three want to sign long-term contracts.

If the two parties are unable to come to an agreement, it is claimed that Jacobs would not join the squad for training camp. The opinion is that the two parties are very distant from reaching a long-term agreement, according to ProFootballTalk. Since Jacobs is not under contract, he won’t be punished if he doesn’t show up for training camp.

Tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. ET is the cutoff time to come to a long-term agreement with franchise-tagged players. Evan Engram, a tight end for the Jacksonville Jaguars, just signed a three-year, $42.5 million contract with $25.5 million guaranteed.

Saquon Barkley is in a Similar Situation to Josh Jacobs and May Hold Out

Running back Saquon Barkley of the New York Giants is in a scenario comparable to Josh Jacobs’.

The New York Post reports that Barkley declined a proposal from the Giants that contained $19.5 million in guaranteed compensation. According to reports, he wants a deal with at least $22.5 million in guaranteed money.

The retention of Daniel Jones and Barkley was one of the Giants’ top goals this offseason. A day before the franchise tag window ended, they came to a four-year, $160 million agreement with their franchise quarterback, leading them to tag Barkley for $10.1 million.

Barkley is anticipated to miss training camp, just like Jacobs, and he might not play in the 2023 season opener.

Only one of the three backs, Tony Pollard, who was also targeted by the Dallas Cowboys, has signed.

It remains to be seen if Josh Jacobs and Saquon Barkley are able to reach agreements as time is running short.
