Major General Peter B. Andrysiak’s Biography
August 2021 marked the start of Maj. Gen. Peter B. Andrysiak’s tenure as Deputy Commanding General of the U.S. Army Europe and Africa.
After graduating from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Maj. Gen. Andrysiak was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He has held a number of roles in the US, Europe, the Pacific, and Asia.
Major General Andrysiak has served as the commander of the Pacific Ocean Division, 2nd Engineer Brigade, 20th Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade, and the U.S. Army Alaska.
He also held the positions of chief of staff for the U.S. Army Pacific, deputy commanding general (support), chief of staff for the 25th Infantry Division, chief of staff for the 3rd Infantry Division, executive officer to the chief of engineers and commanding general of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and deputy commanding officer for the 1st Brigade Combat Team of the 1st Cavalry Division.
Operation Support Hope in Rwanda in 1994; Operation Desert Thunder in Kuwait in 1998; Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq in 2004–05 and 2006–07; Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan in 2010–11 and 2014; and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel in Afghanistan in 2015 are some of his prior military postings.
Maj. Gen. Andrysiak has degrees in environmental and water resources engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, master’s degrees in national security strategy from the National War College, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. In the state of Maryland, he holds a professional engineering registration.
Among his awards are the Distinguished Service Medal, three Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters from the Legion of Merit, two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters from the Bronze Star Medal, three Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters from the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, one Silver Oak Leaf Cluster from the Meritorious Service Medal, two
Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters from the Army Commendation Medal, one Gold Star from the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters from the Army Achievement Medal. Maj. Gen. Andrysiak is wed with two kids, and he has the Combat Action Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, and Ranger Tab.
