DR. Kimberly Sablon Biography
Dr. Kimberly Sablon currently holds the position of Principal Director for Trusted AI and Autonomy under the Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (USD(R&E)). In this capacity, she supervises research activities related to AI/ML and autonomy across the Department of Defense (DOD). Her role also involves guiding the strategic path for integrated AI and autonomy, with a strong focus on trust and responsible decision-making.
Before her current role, Dr. Sablon served as the Army’s S&T Director, where she established strategic goals and held oversight of a yearly budget amounting to $2.6 billion. She also functioned as the Director for Basic Research within the office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology. In this position, she was responsible for creating and advocating for specific basic research budgets, programs, plans, priorities, and investments to the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) and Congress.
Dr. Sablon earned her Ph.D. in Applied Physics from the University of Arkansas in 2009. She boasts a portfolio of over 70 peer-reviewed papers and has made contributions to nine scientific and technical books.
