Steven L. Allen Biography

Brigadier General Steven L. Allen has spent more than 30 years as a logistician in the United States Army. He is a highly decorated and knowledgeable professional. He is now the 44th Chief of Ordnance and Commandant of the United States Army Ordnance School.

Allen, a North Dakota native who was born in Fargo, enlisted in the Army Reserve in 1984 while still in school. He received his commission as an infantry officer in 1987 and over the course of his career held a number of command and staff positions.

Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003–2004 and Operation Enduring Freedom in 2007–2010 were two of Allen’s combat deployments. At the Army Sustainment Command, United States Special Operations Command, and United Nations Command, he has also held important staff posts.

Allen holds degrees from the Army War College, the Command and General Staff College, and the University of North Dakota. He has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, and the Bronze Star Medal with two oak leaf clusters.

Allen has been a steadfast supporter of the Ordnance Corps and is dedicated to making sure that the Army has the greatest logisticians to carry out its duty. He is also an enthusiastic mentor who is dedicated to creating the next group of Army commanders.
