Brigadier General Richard L. Zellmann Biography

United States Army officer Brigadier General Richard L. Zellmann is the United States Space Command’s deputy director for operations at the moment. After completing his studies at the United States Military Academy at West Point, he was commissioned in 1993. In the Army, he has held a range of command and staff positions, including positions in the missile defense and space communities.

The most recent position Zellmann held was that of United States Space Command’s deputy director for strategy, planning, and policy. He was in charge of creating and carrying out the command’s long-term objectives and strategies in this capacity. Additionally, he was in charge of the command’s attempts to incorporate space assets into coalition and joint operations.

Zellmann is a graduate of the Air Force Space Command’s Space Operations School and the American Army War College. Additionally, he is a licensed space operations officer.

Brigadier General Zellmann is a distinguished military man. He has received the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, and the Army Achievement Medal, along with the Bronze Star Medal with two oak leaf clusters.

He has two children with the former Amy E. Thompson, whom he is married to.
