Command Sergeant Major Benjamin Jones enlisted in the United States Army in September 1987 and underwent training at Fort Benning, Georgia, where he specialized as an infantryman.

CSM Jones has held various positions ranging from rifleman to Nominative Command Sergeant Major. He has been assigned to several units, including three deployments with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Fort Campbell, Kentucky; a tour with the 2-4 Infantry in Germany; an assignment with the Ranger Training Brigade at Fort Benning, Georgia; attendance at the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy in Fort Bliss, Texas; two postings with the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) at Fort Drum, New York; a role with the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas; service as the Division Command Sergeant Major for the 25th Infantry Division and U.S. Army Hawaii stationed at Schofield Barracks; and duties as the Command Sergeant Major for the XVIII Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
